From concept to physical part in 24–72 hours. Export Commodity delivers professional rapid prototyping across FDM, SLA, SLS, and resin technologies — with the speed, quality, and expertise to move your product forward without the traditional timeline.
Get a Rapid Quote Explore TechnologiesRapid prototyping is the fast fabrication of a physical part, model, or assembly directly from a digital design — typically a 3D CAD file. The goal is to compress the design-validate-iterate cycle that used to take weeks into a matter of days, or even hours. Instead of waiting for traditional manufacturing lead times, you hold your concept in your hands, test it, find what needs changing, and run another iteration.
Export Commodity operates multiple 3D printing technologies under one roof — FDM, SLA, SLS, and resin — which means we select the optimal process for each prototype based on what you need to test: form and fit, functional stress, fine surface detail, or production-representative geometry. We don't lock you into a single technology. We match the process to the prototype.
Our rapid prototyping service is used by product designers, engineers, architects, inventors, startup founders, entertainment companies, and manufacturers across Houston and the surrounding region. Whether you have a fully developed CAD file or just a sketch and an idea, we can build something you can hold, test, and show.
Upload your STL, STEP, OBJ, or CAD file through our quote form. No file yet? Send us sketches, photos, or a description. Our in-house design team can model your concept and prepare it for printing.
We analyze your part and tell you which printing technology and material best matches your prototype's purpose — whether you're testing form, fit, function, or all three. We explain the trade-offs so you can make an informed decision.
You receive a detailed quote with pricing and turnaround options. Standard delivery is 3–5 business days. Rush options at 24–48 hours are available for most parts. We confirm before printing begins.
Your part is printed using production-grade equipment, then post-processed to your specified finish level. Every part goes through a dimensional check before it ships. We flag any concerns before they become problems.
Local Houston clients can pick up directly from our facility. Shipping is available nationwide with tracked delivery. Files, print settings, and materials used are documented so your next iteration is seamless.
| Technology | Best For | Surface Finish | Speed | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) | Large parts, functional prototypes, enclosures | Good (post-processable) | Fast | Lowest |
| SLA (Stereolithography) | Fine detail, visual models, smooth finish | Excellent | Medium | Medium |
| SLS (Selective Laser Sintering) | Complex geometry, functional Nylon parts, no supports | Good | Medium | Higher |
| Resin (MSLA/DLP) | High detail, jewelry, miniatures, dental models | Excellent | Fast | Medium |
Validate form, fit, and function before committing to tooling. Test assembly, ergonomics, and mechanical function with physical prototypes that behave like production parts.
Presentation-quality models for investor meetings, trade shows, and client demos. Visual prototypes that communicate your vision with professional surface finish and accurate proportions.
Scaled architectural models, interior design mock-ups, and spatial concept pieces. Accurate, detailed physical models from your CAD or BIM files.
Structural and functional testing of parts under real load conditions. We can print in engineering materials — Nylon, PC, Carbon Fiber — that approximate production part behavior.
Prop prototypes, hero pieces, and costume components. Quick iteration cycles mean you can refine design on-set without losing production time.
Anatomical models, surgical guides, and dental study models printed with biocompatible-grade resins and materials. Custom geometry from scan data.
Standard turnaround is 3–5 business days from file approval. Rush orders (24–48 hours) are available for most parts at an expedite fee. Factors that affect timeline include part size, technology, quantity, and post-processing requirements.
STL is the universal standard. We also accept STEP, OBJ, 3MF, and most major CAD formats (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, AutoCAD, Rhino). If you don't have a file, send us images, sketches, or measurements and our design team can build it.
Yes. Our in-house design team can create 3D models from sketches, reference images, physical parts (via measurement or scanning), or written specifications. Design services are quoted separately.
We print single-piece prototypes. There's no minimum quantity. We regularly run one-off parts, multiple design iterations, or small batches of 2–20 units for comparison testing.
Upload a file or describe your concept. We'll recommend the right process, material, and timeline — and get you a quote the same business day.
